USDA Updates CFAP2 for Livestock, Poultry and Special Crops

The Ministry of Agriculture announced today that it is updating the Coronavirus 2 Food Assistance Program (CFAP2) for contract producers of eligible livestock and poultry and producers of specialty crops and other sales products.

Additionally, the USDA Farm Service Agency has set a deadline of October 12 for all eligible growers to apply for or modify COFOG2 applications.

“We appreciate the USDA recognizing the incredible losses farmers suffered during the height of the pandemic,” said Zippy Duvall, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation. “When restaurants and schools closed, the demand for fresh produce disappeared almost overnight. While funding from the previous COFOG made up for many losses, AFBF recognized that contract growers were being left behind and worked with lawmakers and administration to ensure all farmers’ voices were heard.

“We thank Senator Roger Wicker [R-Miss.] and Senator Chris Coons [D-Del.] as Co-Chairs of the Senate Chicken Caucus, as well as the Senate and House Agriculture Committees for their work in filling gaps in COFOG assistance, and we appreciate the Biden administration and [Agriculture] Secretary [Tom] Vilsack for carrying out this aid. COVID assistance will help farmers across the country recover from the damage caused by the pandemic and ensure they can continue to put food on the table for American families. “
