L’Acadie vineyards of Canada become the first biocyclic vegan vineyard in North America


L’Acadie vineyards in Gaspereau Nova Scotia, Canada is the first farm and winery in North America to adopt the strict European biocyclic vegan standard to avoid all animal inputs into the vineyard and cellar, making it the first farm and winery in North America. North to be qualified to use the Biocyclic Vegan Quality Label.

Vegan biocyclic farming means purely plant-based organic farming. This form of cultivation excludes any commercial breeding of animals and does not use any inputs of animal origin in viticulture and winemaking. Particular emphasis is placed on the promotion of biodiversity, healthy soil life, the closing of organic cycles and the systematic accumulation of humus.

Acadie Vineyards has been the first organic winery in Nova Scotia since its inception in 2004 and their operations go beyond organic without animal inputs and sustainable practices such as composted plant residue teas and cover crops, and encouraging biodiversity and living and regenerating soils. .

Acadie Vineyards was founded in 2004 by famous Canadian winemaker Bruce Ewert and his family in Gaspereau, Nova Scotia. Bruce has been a professional winemaker for over thirty years for wineries in the Okanagan Valley and Niagara Peninsula in Canada, as well as in Sonoma, California, and Hunter Valley and Padthaway in Australia, and now the Canada’s emerging wine region, Nova Scotia. He was chief oenologist responsible for 400,000 cases and made more than half a million bottles of sparkling wine using the traditional method during his career. It is integral to the establishment of Nova Scotia as a sparkling wine region. Acadie Vineyards is the first winery in Nova Scotia to launch traditional method sparkling wines receiving international awards.
