The Delhi government will provide Easy Loans of up to Rs 20,000 to street vendors and hawkers. This will help them revive their businesses, which have been battered by the Covid-19 pandemic. âIt will be a permanent arrangement and will continue even after the pandemic is over. Street vendors and hawkers will benefit from the low interest loan. A policy is being developed for this, âsaid Minister of Social Affairs Rajendra Pal Gautam. Hawkers and street vendors were not allowed from late March to July and only those who sold essential items like vegetables and fruit could successfully continue their business with great difficulty. Late last month, the Delhi government allowed street vendors and hawkers to resume their jobs and businesses. Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal approved the proposal to allow street vendors and hawkers. From August 1, hawkers were allowed to operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily with social distancing and all other precautionary measures in place. Delhi has over 5 lakh street vendors. However, the number of sellers registered with civic organizations is much lower.
