Canopy management training in cashew orchards organized

The Cashew Research Directorate (DCR), Puttur, recently organized a training for farmers on canopy management in the cashew orchard of Venugopal Kedilaya in Shibara near Puttur.
As cashew trees grow widely over a large area, effective management of the tree canopy is very important to achieve a better harvest, according to a management statement.
A team of scientists from the management, including Senior Scientist (Horticulture) J. Dinakar Adiga, Scientist (Horticulture) Muralidhara BM, Scientist (SPM and AP) Manjesh GN and Scientist (Agricultural Extension) Aswathy Chandrakumar visited the orchard. of Navneet Farms Cashew Nuts for advice on canopy management practices for cashews as well as other fruit crops.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Adiga highlighted basic training practices as well as pruning practices to bring young cashew seedlings to a suitable shape for better penetration of sunlight and air. .
Mr. Muralidhara explained how to prune plants from the start of planting as well as when pruning for various varieties of cashews.
This was followed by an actual on-farm demonstration of on-farm canopy management.
